How AI Background Removal Works
Upload your image and click “Remove Background.” The image is sent to our server, where a lightweight AI segmentation model (u2netp) identifies the foreground subject and generates an alpha mask. The mask is applied and the result is returned as a transparent PNG — ready to place on any background or use as a product cut-out. Nothing is stored on the server.

How does AI background removal work?
The image is sent to our server, where an AI model (u2netp) trained specifically for foreground/background segmentation analyses the image and produces an alpha mask. That mask is applied to the original image and the result is returned as a transparent PNG. No manual selection or drawing required.
Which subjects work best?
The AI works best on people, products on plain surfaces, animals, and cars. Complex scenes where the subject and background have similar colours, or subjects with very fine detail like individual strands of hair against a cluttered background, are harder cases and may have rough edges.
Can I get a white background instead of transparent?
Yes. After the background is removed, click "Download JPG (white bg)" to get a version with the transparent areas filled with solid white. This is useful for e-commerce product images and documents that do not support transparency.
What file formats are supported?
You can upload JPG, PNG, and WebP images. The result is always downloaded as a PNG, since JPG and WebP do not support transparency. A white-background JPG option is also available.
Why is there a daily limit?
Background removal uses a machine learning model that is more computationally expensive than other tools. The free tier allows 3 removals per day per IP address. This resets at midnight UTC. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited removals.
What is the file size limit?
Free users can process images up to 5 MB. Pro users get up to 25 MB. For best results, use the highest-resolution image available — the AI produces cleaner masks on high-resolution images.
Are my images stored or used for training?
No. Images are processed in-memory on our server and the result is streamed straight back. Nothing is stored, and images are never used to train or fine-tune any models.
What should I do if the result has rough edges?
For hair and fur, the AI model makes a best effort but may struggle with very fine detail. Try uploading a higher-resolution version of the image. For more precise results on complex subjects, a dedicated tool like Adobe Express or remove.bg may give better results.
